(3-6) Set during the time of the Civil War, this tale is about two orphan brothers who live in Pine Swamp, Maine under the harsh rule of their guardian, Squinton Leach, who illegally sells Homer's brother to the Union Army. In an attempt to rescue his brother, Homer runs away from home. Throughout Homer's journey, he is kidnapped by slave-catchers, becomes the pig-boy in a traveling medicine show, and accidentally lands a hot-air balloon in the middle of the Confederate camp.
