Desert Rose and Her Highfalutin Hog

This is a  cumulative tale about a pig farmer named Desert Rose. After finding a gold nugget on her pig farm she buys a highfalutin jog to take to the state fair. However, she has trouble getting to the fair because her hog won't cross the creek. Desert Rose seeks the assitance from a plethora of Western-themed characters. She asks Coyote to nip Hog so he’ll move, but Coyote is too tired to nip. Then Snake is too hot to stir Coyote; Cowboy is too afraid of Snake to help; and even Bronco the horse makes excuses. Finally, greedy Armadillo agrees to pitch in, sparking. The Texas-style, alliterative language is what makes this book a great read aloud. The only thing I did not like about this book is the setting. The state fair is not in Laredo. Hmm.....maybe this is because she is not from Texas. She lives in Florida. However, I will cut her some slack because she is a fellow librarian.
