I hope you had a wonderful Winter Break. I loved spending time with my family and enjoying lots of wonderful books.

One of the books I read was Ungifted by Gordon Korman. The main character is Donovan Curtis, an average student and prankster who attends Hardcastle Middle School. First, Donovan mocks the basketball team over the PA system, then he whacks his school's statue of Atlas with a stick and knocks the world loose. The world rolls down the hill where it damages the gymnasium. The superintendent catches Donovan in the act and marches him to his office where the superintendent scribbles down Donovan's name on a piece of paper he finds on his cluttered desk. The piece of paper turns out to be a list of new candidates for the gifted program at the Academy for Scholastic Distinction. When the superintendent returns to his office to call the boy's parents, the paper is gone and he cannot remember Donovan's name only the name of the school he attends. Can Donovan convince the teachers at his new school that he is gifted? Otherwise Donovan will be sent back to Hardcastle Middle School where he is sure to be found by the superintendent.
