Christmas Cricket by Eve Bunting
A cricket who feels "small and worthless in the bigness of the night" enters a house and hides in a Christmas tree. When the cricket begins to sing, the little girl thinks the sound is an angel. The father explains that "angels sing in the songs of birds, and frogs and people and crickets." After hearing this explanation, the cricket feels a since of worth. The beautifully illustrated book would make a great holiday read aloud along with a cup of hot chocolate or cider.
