(5-8) Wow! This is a real emotional read; I cried and cried throughout the second half of the book. This book provides a fresh look at events during the Holocaust that are not well known. The story begins in Lidice, Czechoslovakia, a small community where Milada and her family are sleeping. Suddenly, they are awakened to the sound of Nazi soldiers ordering them to pack for a three day interrogation. Immediately, the men and boys are separated from the women and girls. The women and girls are taken to a nearby school where those that fit the "Aryan" standards are separated from their families and sent to a special school that teaches them how to be good Germans. However, Milada vows to always remember who she is. Will she lose herself as a result of the brainwashing or will she remain true to her vow?
